Objectives: This study aimed to examine Ki-67's correlation with clinicopathological characteristics of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), evaluate its prognostic significance, and develop a Ki-67 integrated prognostic model. Methods: The retrospective study included 764 HNSCC patients hospitalized from 2012 to 2022. Data were sourced from medical records and immunohistochemical analysis of surgical specimens. Results: Ki-67 expression was significantly associated with sex, pathological grade, clinical stage, and metastasis, but not with age or recurrence. Higher Ki-67 levels were linked to poorer prognosis, as indicated by Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. Utilizing a Cox proportional hazards model, four prognostic factors were identified: age, recurrence, metastasis, and Ki-67 expression. These factors were used to construct a prognostic model and a nomogram. The model's predictive accuracy was confirmed by a high concordance index and a reliable calibration curve. Conclusion: Ki-67 expression in HNSCC patients correlates with several clinicopathological features and serves as a negative prognostic marker. A prognostic model incorporating Ki-67 was successfully developed, offering a new tool for patient prognosis assessment in HNSCC.

OBJECTIVES: With the assistance of 3D visualization and real-time navigation technologies, the tumors in the parapharyngeal and lateral skull base should be removed through oral the approach with endoscopy. METHODS: The preoperative CT data of eight patients with parapharyngeal or lateral skull base soft tissue tumors were modeled, and the anatomical position relationship between the tumor and surrounding blood vessels and other important structures was reconstructed using 3D visualization technology, and preoperative design was performed. The intraoperative oral approach and real-time navigation guidance were adopted in the endoscopic resection of soft tissue tumors in the parapharyngeal and lateral skull base, and the clinical application value of this method was evaluated. RESULTS: The blood loss during the operation was controlled within 150 mL, and the average blood loss was approximately 125 mL. The incidence of postoperative complications was low, and patients could recover well through functional training. The oral approach did not leave any wounds nor scars on the patient's facial skin after the operation and had no effect on the patient's appearance. CONCLUSIONS: The combination of 3D visualization technology, intraoperative real-time navigation, and endoscopy provides a beautiful, safe, and minimally invasive surgical method for patients with parapharyngeal or lateral skull base tumors.

Chinese fir is an extremely important economic tree species in southern China. In recent years, 74.5% of Chinese fir saplings suffered from shoot blight in Shunchang County, Nanping City, Fujian province, China. Seventeen isolates were collected from rotten shoots, and their pathogenicity was confirmed following Koch's postulate. The five pathogenic isolates were identified as genus Bipolaris based on morphological characteristics, including septate and geniculate conidiophores, conidiogenous nodes smooth to slightly verruculose, dematiaceous phragmospore conidia, oblong or fusiform conidia, and slightly protruding or truncate hilum on conidia, but number of pseudosepta (3 to 11, most 5 to 8) and size of conidia (22.81 to 116.13) µm × (9.16 to 26.58) µm are different from the known species of Bipolaris. A phylogenetic analysis based on ITS, GAPDH and Tef1-α sequences determined that the five strains belong to a new species of Bipolaris and the name Bipolaris fujianensis sp. nov. is proposed. The fungicide sensitivity of the pathogen strain Cfsb3 was further evaluated using eight fungicides. Flusilazole, difenoconazole, tebuconazole and propiconazole exhibited high toxicity to Cfsb3, the effective concentration inhibiting 50% (EC50) of mycelial growth were 0.08, 0.20, 0.34 and 0.36 µg/ml, respectively, for these four fungicides. Flusilazole, difenoconazole and iprodione inhibited B. fujianensis by 100% on detached Chinese fir shoots at their recommended concentrations, but azoxystrobin and thiram were ineffective. In conclusion, this study reported an emerging pathogen of Chinese fir sapling shoot blight and proposed triazole and dicarboximidies fungicides for this disease control.

BACKGROUND: Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) is mainly characterized by excessive invasion of the uterine muscle layer accompanied by a large number of foreign blood vessels, leading to severe bleeding during and after delivery. However, the mechanism of excessive invasion of nutrient cells in placenta accreta is currently unclear. METHODS: We performed RNA sequencing of 6 PAS patients and 4 control donors, coupled with Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses. The mRNA and protein expression of C-X-C motif ligand 8 (CXCL8) in the placental tissue was measured by qRT‒PCR, immunohistochemical staining and Western blotting. HTR-8/SVneo human villous trophoblast Neo cells were used for in vitro investigation of cell migration and invasion as well as the expression level of CXCL8. RESULTS: A total of 1120 differentially expressed mRNAs were identified in PAS patients. Moreover, GO and KEGG analyses indicated that the differentially expressed mRNAs were most closely associated with immune system processes, biological adhesion and Wnt signaling pathway. The CXCL8 mRNA and protein levels in PAS tissue were significantly higher than those in normal placental tissue. Forced overexpression of CXCL8 significantly increased the migration and invasion of HTR-8/SVneo cells, accompanied by the upregulation of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 and the downregulation of E-cadherin, which was reversed by knockdown of CXCL8. CONCLUSIONS: CXCL8 was highly expressed in PAS, and knockdown of CXCL8 suppressed the migration and invasion of HTR-8/SVneo cells, suggesting its potential as a diagnostic and therapeutic target for PAS.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop and validate a machine learning model incorporating both dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) angiography quantitative parameters and clinically relevant risk factors for the identification of symptomatic carotid plaques to prevent acute cerebrovascular events. METHODS: The data of 180 patients with carotid atherosclerosis plaques were analysed from January 2017 to December 2021; 110 patients (64.03±9.58 years old, 20 women, 90 men) were allocated to the symptomatic group, and 70 patients (64.70±9.89 years old, 50 women, 20 men) were allocated to the asymptomatic group. Overall, five machine learning models using the XGBoost algorithm, based on different CT and clinical features, were developed in the training cohort. The performances of all five models were assessed in the testing cohort using receiver operating characteristic curves, accuracy, recall rate, and F1 score. RESULTS: The shapley additive explanation (SHAP) value ranking showed fat fraction (FF) as the highest among all CT and clinical features and normalised iodine density (NID) as the 10th. The model based on the top 10 features from the SHAP measurement showed optimal performance (area under the curve [AUC] .885, accuracy .833, recall rate .933, F1 score .861), compared with the other four models based on conventional CT features (AUC .588, accuracy .593, recall rate .767, F1 score .676), DECT features (AUC .685, accuracy .648, recall rate .667, F1 score .678), conventional CT and DECT features (AUC .819, accuracy .740, recall rate .867, F1 score .788), and all CT and clinical features (AUC .878, accuracy .833, recall rate .867, F1 score .852). CONCLUSION: FF and NID can serve as useful imaging markers of symptomatic carotid plaques. This tree-based machine learning model incorporating both DECT and clinical features could potentially comprise a non-invasive method for identification of symptomatic carotid plaques to guide clinical treatment strategies.

Purpose: This study aimed to quantify the preferences of Chinese patients with schizophrenia and their caregivers for antipsychotic treatment. Patients and Methods: Patients with schizophrenia (aged 18-35) and their caregivers were recruited via six outpatient mental health clinics in Shanghai, People's Republic of China. In a discrete choice experiment (DCE), participants chose between two hypothetical treatment scenarios that varied regarding the type of treatment, rate of hospitalization, severity of positive symptoms, treatment cost and rates of improvement in daily and social functioning. Data for each group were analyzed using the modelling approach that yielded the lower deviance information criterion. The relative importance score (RIS) for each treatment attribute was also determined. Results: A total of 162 patients and 167 caregivers participated. Frequency of hospital admission was the most important treatment attribute for patients (average scaled RIS=27%), followed by mode and frequency of treatment administration (24%). Improvement in ability to carry out daily activities (8%) and improvement in social functioning (8%) were least important. Patients in full-time employment placed more importance on the frequency of hospital admission than unemployed patients (p<0.01). Frequency of hospital admission was also the most important attribute for caregivers (RIS=33%), followed by improvement in positive symptoms (20%), while improvement in daily activities (7%) was the least important. Conclusion: Patients with Schizophrenia in China prefer treatments that help reduce the number of times they are admitted to hospital, as do their caregivers. These results may bring insight for physicians and health authorities in China regarding the treatment characteristics that patients value the most.

Objective To investigate the cardiac structural and functional characteristics in the patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM),and predict the factors influencing the characteristics. Methods A total of 783 HFpEF patients diagnosed in the Department of Geriatric Cardiology,the First Hospital of Lanzhou University from April 2009 to December 2020 were enrolled in this study.Echocardiography and tissue Doppler technique were employed to evaluate cardiac structure and function.According to the occurrence of T2DM,the patients were assigned into a HFpEF+T2DM group (n=332) and a HFpEF group (n=451).Propensity score matching (PSM)(in a 1∶1 ratio) was adopted to minimize confounding effect.According to urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER),the HFpEF+T2DM group was further divided into three subgroups with UAER<20 µg/min,of 20-200 µg/min,and>200 µg/min,respectively.The comorbidities,symptoms and signs,and cardiac structure and function were compared among the groups to clarify the features of diabetes related HFpEF.Multivariate linear regression was conducted to probe the relationship of systolic blood pressure,blood glucose,glycosylated hemoglobin,and UARE with cardiac structural and functional impairment. Results The HFpEF+T2DM group had higher prevalence of hypertension (P=0.001) and coronary heart disease (P=0.036),younger age (P=0.020),and larger body mass index (P=0.005) than the HFpEF group,with the median diabetic course of 10 (3,17) years.After PSM,the prevalence of hypertension and coronary heart disease,body mass index,and age had no significant differences between the two groups(all P>0.05).In addition,the HFpEF+T2DM group had higher interventricular septal thickness (P=0.015),left ventricular posterior wall thickness (P=0.040),and left ventricular mass (P=0.012) and lower early diastole velocity of mitral annular septum (P=0.030) and lateral wall (P=0.011) than the HFpEF group.Compared with the HFpEF group,the HFpEF+T2DM group showed increased ratio of early diastolic mitral filling velocity to early diastolic mitral annular velocity (E/e') (P=0.036).Glycosylated hemoglobin was correlated with left ventricular mass (P=0.011),and the natural logarithm of UAER with interventricular septal thickness (P=0.004),left ventricular posterior wall thickness (P=0.006),left ventricular mass (P<0.001),and E/e' ratio (P=0.049). Conclusion The patients with both T2DM and HFpEF have thicker left ventricular wall,larger left ventricular mass,more advanced left ventricular remodeling,severer impaired left ventricular diastolic function,and higher left ventricular filling pressure than the HFpEF patients without T2DM.Elevated blood glucose and diabetic microvascular diseases might play a role in the development of the detrimental structural and functional changes of the heart.

The rapid development of the textile industry and improvement of people's living standards have led to the production of cotton textile and simultaneously increased the production of textile wastes. Cotton is one of the most common textile materials, and the waste cotton accounts for 24% of the total textile waste. To effectively manage the waste, recycling and reusing waste cotton are common practices to reduce global waste production. This paper summarizes the characteristics of waste cotton and high-value products derived from waste cotton (e.g., yarns, composite reinforcements, regenerated cellulose fibers, cellulose nanocrystals, adsorptive materials, flexible electronic devices, and biofuels) via mechanical, chemical, and biological recycling methods. The advantages and disadvantages of making high-value products from waste cotton are summarized and discussed. New technologies and products for recycling waste cotton are proposed, providing a guideline and direction for merchants and researchers. This review paper can shed light on converting textile wastes other than cotton (e.g., bast, silk, wool, and synthetic fibers) into value-added products.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of Tiaojingzhixue decoction on the expression of sex hormone and endometrial mRNA in perimenopausal patients with abnormal uterine bleeding. For this purpose, 84 patients with perimenopausal abnormal uterine bleeding who were treated in our hospital from January 2018 to January 2019 were divided into study group and control group, the control group was treated with mifepristone for six months, the clinical efficacy, time of symptom relief and disappearance, endometrial thickness, menstrual volume, adverse events, expression of sex hormone (ER), Progesterone receptor (PR), Lutropin (LH), Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), Estradiol (e2) and Vascular endothelial growth factor in endometrial tissue were compared between the two groups. The results showed that the clinical efficacy of the study group (97.61%) was significantly higher than the control group (80.95%) (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in endometrial thickness between the two groups before treatment, but after treatment for 1 month, 3 months and 6 months, endometrial thickness was thinner in the study group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in menstrual volume between the two groups before treatment (P <0.05), but it was lower in the study group (P <0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions in the study group was 11.90% lower than in the control group (26.19%). The expression levels of ER, PR, LH, FSH and E2 were almost the same before treatment and there was no significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05), but they were lower in the study group after treatment (P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference in the level of VEGF between the two groups (P>0.05); after treatment, the level of Vegf in the study group was lower than the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the level of Vegf in both groups was significantly higher than before treatment (P<0.05). In general, Tiaojingzhixue decoction can decrease the level of sex hormone and increase the expression of VEGF in patients with perimenopausal abnormal uterine bleeding.

This study presents the corrosion behavior and surface properties of SS304 modified by electrodeposited nickel-cobalt (Ni-Co) alloy coating with cauliflower-shaped micro/nano structures (Ni-Co/SS304) in the simulated PEMFC cathodic environment. The hydrophobicity of the as-prepared Ni-Co alloy coating can be improved simply by low-temperature annealing. The morphology and composition of the Ni-Co/SS304 were analyzed and characterized by SEM, EDS, XRD, and XPS. The polarization, wettability, and ICR tests were respectively conducted to systemically evaluate the performance of Ni-Co/SS304 in the simulated PEMFC cathode environment. As revealed by the results, the Ni-Co/SS304 can maintain its hydrophobicity under hot-water droplets as high as 80 °C and demonstrates higher conductivity than the bare SS304 substrate before and after polarization (0.6 V vs. SCE, 5 h), which is of great significance to improve the surface hydrophobicity and conductivity of bipolar plates.

BACKGROUND: Overmedicalization in labor management and delivery, including labor induction, is an increasing global concern. But detailed epidemiological data on labor induction in China remains unclear. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study of data (2015-2016) from 96 hospitals in 24 (of 34) Chinese administrative divisions. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association between medical conditions and cesarean delivery among women undergoing induction. Linear regression analysis was performed to assess the association between the prelabor cesarean delivery and labor-induction rates in each hospital. The impacts of labor induction and prelabor cesarean delivery on maternal and neonatal outcomes were compared in low-risk women. RESULTS: Among 73 901 eligible participants, 48.1% were nulliparous. The overall weighted rate of labor induction in China was 14.2% (95% CI, 11.1-17.2%), with 18.4% (95% CI, 14.5-22.3%) in nulliparas and 10.2% (95% CI, 7.7-12.8%) in multiparas. Regardless of the induction method, the overall vaginal delivery rate was 72.9% (95% CI, 68.6-77.3%) in nulliparas and 86.6% (95% CI, 79.7-93.5%) in multiparas. Hospitals with a higher rate of nonmedically indicated cesarean delivery had a lower labor-induction rate in nulliparas (ß = - 0.57%; 95% CI, - 0.92 to - 0.22%; P = 0.002). Compared with prelabor cesarean delivery, labor induction in low-risk women was not associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. CONCLUSION: The 2015-2016 labor-induction rate in China was 18.4% in nulliparas and 10.2% in multiparas. The proportion of prelabor cesarean delivery may contribute to regional differences in the labor-induction rate. Compared with prelabor cesarean delivery, labor induction in low-risk women may not increase severe maternal and neonatal morbidity.

In this study, an silver (Ag) plating with micro/nano-dendrite structures is prepared on the 304 stainless steel (SS304) surface by potentiostatic deposition (Ag/SS304). After being modified by n-dodecyl mercaptan (NDM) with the low surface energy, the obtained sample (NDM@Ag/SS304) exhibits stable superhydrophobicity and excellent hot-water repellency. The surface morphology and composition of NDM@Ag/SS304 are analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray spectrometer (EDS), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) characterization. The electrochemical measurements, tests of water contact angle (WCA), and interfacial contact resistance (ICR) are employed to systematically study the performance of the NDM@Ag/SS304 in the simulated cathode environment of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). The results show that the NDM@Ag/SS304 has high corrosion potential (~0.25 V) and low corrosion current density (~4.04 µA/cm2); after potentiostatic polarization (0.6 V, 5 h), the NDM@Ag/SS304 also shows high superhydrophobic stability.

Although numerous studies focused on nitrate source, transformation and transport of river water in karst area have been reported, it's still unclear in understanding nitrate main source and transformation in karst groundwater system and how nitrate transport from soil to water during rainfall events in karst critical zone. In order to explore the response and transport of nitrate in karst groundwater to rainfall events, different depths of well water before, during and after rainfall event were sampled, and hillslope runoff, surface runoff of different land-use types during rainfall event were sampled synchronously at a typical karst agricultural catchment in Southwest China. Results showed that fluctuations of EC, pH and DO in deep borehole well (W1) and artesian well (W2) were small, on the contrary, variations of EC and DO in shallow well (W3) were large during sampling period. The nitrate concentrations and isotopic values indicated that nitrate in karst groundwater mainly originated from chemical fertilizer (CF), and influenced by denitrification process. High intensity of denitrification was observed in deep groundwater (87%) and artesian well water (almost 100%). Extremely high dual nitrate isotope values up to 46.8 ± 1.5‰ and 24.7 ± 0.5‰ were found in the deep artesian well. The small variation of water chemistry (EC, DO and pH), nitrate concentration and dual nitrate isotope values in deep wells during sampling period suggested that newly supplied nitrogen in deep groundwater during rainfall events also comes from deep groundwater. Low nitrogen concentrations in hillslope subsurface flow and surface runoff suggests that nitrogen transport process leading to increase of water nitrogen content mainly occur in depression. Nitrogen in depression soil is mainly transported to groundwater through fissures, fractures and conduits, rather than through vertical migration processes in the soil during rainfall events.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is a malignant tumor commonly observed in adolescents, who experience relapse and metastasis (30% of the total cases). Its progression is attributed to immune escape mediated by immune checkpoints. However, the intercellular connection between tumor cells and T cells remain unclear. This study was conducted to explore the effects of PD-L1-loaded exosomes on the tumor growth of OS. The exosomes were extracted from cells and tissues through ultracentrifugation. IFN-γ production was determined to evaluate the activity of Jurkat cells. The in vivo growth of OS cells was examined using a C3H xenograft model in mice, tumor volumes were monitored, and the proportion of CD3 + T cells in tumor tissues was detected. Results revealed that PD-L1 was significantly upregulated in the OS cell lines. MG63 and Saos-2 cells were the most abundant in PD-L1, so they were selected as investigation targets. PD-L1 was found to be also highly expressed in the exosomes isolated from MG63 and Saos-2 cells. The exosomes elicited significant inhibitory effects on IFN-γ secretion in Jurkat cells, which were abolished by the PD-L1 antibody or siRNAs. The in vivo growth of C3H cells was significantly facilitated by the overexpression of mPD-L1 or by the administration of mPD-L1-overloaded exosomes. The infiltration of CD3 + T cells was also decreased. The exosomes extracted from clinical PD-L1-positive OS tissues showed a promising inhibitory property against activated T cells. Therefore, PD-L1-loaded exosomes extracted from OS cells aggravated OS progression by suppressing T cell activities.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the intestinal function in rats with exertional heat stroke (EHS) and explore the protective role of Ruifuping pectin (RFP) against heat related intestinal mucosal injury. METHODS: One hundred and twenty healthy special pathogen free (SPF) male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into normothermic control group, EHS model group, hyperthermic plus drinking water group (H2O+EHS group) and hyperthermic plus pectin group (RFP+EHS group) with 30 rats in each group. The rats in the H2O+EHS group and RFP+EHS group were given water 20 mL/kg or RFP 20 mL/kg orally for 5 days during adaptive training period. After 1 week, the temperature control range was adjusted to (37±1) centigrade using the temperature control treadmill, and the rat model of EHS was reproduced by one-time high temperature exhaustive exercise. No rehydration intervention was given during the training adaptation period in the EHS model group. The rats in the normothermic control group were maintained to room temperature (25±2) centigrade and humidity (55±5)% without other treatment. Behavior tests including withdraw response, righting, and muscle strength were performed immediately after onset of EHS. Blood of inferior vena cava was collected, and the serum inflammatory cytokines [tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukins (IL-6, IL-1ß, IL-10)] and activity of diamine oxidase (DAO) were detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The intestinal mucosa was collected, after hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining, and Chiu score was performed to assess EHS induced pathological changes under light microscope. RESULTS: The rats in the EHS model group had behavioral, inflammatory and pathological changes, such as delayed withdraw response and righting, decreased forelimb pulling, increased inflammatory index, and obvious intestinal mucosal injury, which indicated that the reproduction of the EHS model was successful. There was no significant difference in above parameters between the H2O+EHS group and the EHS model group except that the inflammatory index in the RFP+EHS group was improved. Compared with the EHS model group, the withdraw reflex to pain and righting after RFP pretreatment in the RFP+EHS group were significantly improved (righting score: 1.4±0.2 vs. 0.3±0.2, withdraw reflex to pain score: 1.0±0.1 vs. 0.2±0.1, both P < 0.05), the muscle strength was significantly increased (N: 13.0±0.5 vs. 8.2±0.6, P < 0.01). The levels of pro-inflammatory factors in the RFP+EHS group were significantly lower than those in the EHS model group [TNF-α (ng/L): 67.5±9.2 vs. 194.3±13.7, IL-6 (ng/L): 360.0±54.1 vs. 981.2±84.4, IL-1ß (ng/L): 33.7±9.0 vs. 88.7±6.1, all P < 0.01], while the level of anti-inflammatory factor IL-10 was higher than that in the EHS model group (ng/L: 208.7±10.5 vs. 103.7±7.0, P < 0.01). The degree of intestinal mucosal injury in the RFP+EHS group was less severe than that in the EHS model group, and the Chiu score and DAO were significantly lower than those in the EHS model group [Chiu score: 1.5±0.2 vs. 3.8±0.0, DAO (U/L): 83.7±6.7 vs. 128.7±10.5, both P < 0.05]. CONCLUSIONS: High temperature training can damage the intestinal barrier function, and induce endotoxemia and systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in rats. Oral prophylactic RFP can protect the intestinal barrier function, alleviate SIRS, and promote the recovery of basic nerve reflex and muscle strength after the occurrence of EHS in rats.

BACKGROUND: Polyps may develop into colorectal cancer (CRC) after 10-20 years. The occurrence of polyps and tumors caused by somatic gene mutations is considered a main pathogenesis of CRC. Among all general patients with polyps or CRC, some had adenoma of varying degrees that were consistent with familial colorectal adenomas. A patient with CRC (the propositus) and his brothers and sister, all of whom had varying degrees of colorectal polyps showed different adenomas with different members in a family. METHODS: In the present study, a total of 9 family members were investigated, and a family tree was drawn. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral venous blood samples from family members, and whole-exome sequencing (WES) and Sanger sequencing were performed on the DNA samples. The result of WES was compared with compared directly to the reference genome (hg19) with Burrows-Wheeler Aligner, which is as control group from. RESULTS: We identified a base substitution in the miR-4477b gene (c.68415368T>G, chromosome 9 q13), predicted the target gene of miR-4477b through the biologic website, and analyzed the Gene Ontology (GO) and signal pathway of the target gene. The GO functional annotation analysis of the target gene of mir4477b revealed that these genes are involved mainly in the G1/S transition of the mitotic cell cycle, activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase activity, protein phosphorylation, and membrane, centrosome, cytoplasm, zinc ion-binding, protein-binding, and ligase activity. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Gene and Genomes pathway analysis revealed that miR-4477b regulates target genes mainly involved in the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/Akt signaling pathway, regulation of the actin cytoskeleton, proteoglycans in cancer, pathways in cancer, and renal cell carcinoma. CONCLUSIONS: The mutation of the has-mir-4477b gene likely leads to the occurrence of adenoma and CRC. In-depth studies of patients from the same family with different stages of adenoma can avoid errors caused by gene diversity, incomplete clinical data, and uncertain disease development. The has-mir-4477b gene may represent a key gene mutation in colorectal carcinogenesis and a multiyear cancer risk for patients that requires further attention.

Geogenic arsenic enrichment in soil and river sediments of Tibet compared to its upper crustal abundance has been observed, raising the question whether other trace elements are also enriched and thus may pose ecological risks. Because human activities are limited, the reservoir sediments after the recent construction of the Shiquan dam on the Singe Tsangpo (ST) and the Zam dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo (YT) collect and thus represent material sourced from 14,870 km2 and 157,668 km2 of drainage areas, respectively. Bulk concentrations of the metalloid (As) and 13 metals (Li, Be, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, Cs, and Pb) are analyzed for 123 samples from 9 mostly silty sediment cores (depth: 11-20 cm) from the Shiquan Reservoir and for 250 samples from 13 mostly sandy sediment cores (depth: 9-28 cm) from the Zam Reservoir. These elemental concentrations are normalized to the upper crustal Fe abundance of 3.9% to arrive at a regional sediment geochemical background value for each element. The regional background values of most elements in the ST drainage and the YT drainage are comparable with the upper crustal abundance. However, three elements (Li, As, and Cs) in both drainage basins display significant enrichment compared to their respective upper crustal abundance. Sequential leaching of a subset of sediment samples from the ST (n = 18) and YT (n = 29) drainages reveals that chemical fractions of metals and metalloids in these two reservoirs are similar, with most of the elements dominated by the residual fraction with low mobility. Taken together, the ecological risks of the most studied elements in the reservoir sediments are likely low pending further aquatic bioavailability investigations, except that As, Cu, Pb, and Be deserve more attention due to their elevated levels in mobile fractions.

BACKGROUND: Occlusal trauma can aggravate periodontitis, but the mechanism remains unclear. Yes-associated protein (YAP), a mechanical stressor protein, may play an important role in this process. METHODS: Western blot and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) were applied to detect the expression of YAP and inflammatory factors in patients with periodontitis accompanied with or without occlusal trauma. Through local administration of Porphyromonas gingivalis and composite resin bonding on maxillary molars in mice, we established periodontitis and occlusal trauma models. Treatment with or without XAV939, to inhibit YAP activation, was performed in these models. Micro-computed tomography, immunofluorescence (IF), and qRT-PCR were used to explore the YAP pathway in periodontitis with occlusal trauma. Cyclic stress and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimuli were applied to the L929 mouse fibroblast cell line with or without XAV939. Western blot, IF, and qRT-PCR were used to verify the in vivo results. RESULTS: Activated dephosphorylated YAP and increased expression of inflammatory factors were observed in patients with periodontitis accompanied with occlusal trauma. In the mouse model of periodontitis with occlusal trauma, YAP transferred into the nucleus, resulting in Jun N-terminal kinases (JNK) related pro-inflammatory pathway up-regulation. L929 cell cyclic stress and LPS stimulation results confirmed the in vivo results. Application of XAV939 inhibited YAP protein dephosphorylation and reduced JNK pro-inflammatory pathway factor expression in vivo and in vitro. CONCLUSIONS: Occlusal trauma can activate YAP nuclear transfer, resulting in the up-regulation of the JNK pro-inflammatory pathway. This can be inhibited by the XAV939 YAP inhibitor.

Objective@#To explore effect of intensive intervention for improving the referral rate of children with visual refractive disorders, and to provide a reference for myopia prevention and control of children and adolescents.@*Methods@#A total of 4 464 preschool children were selected from Zhuanqiao county, Minghang district in Shanghai for the eyesight investigation during April to June in 2019. Stratified random cluster sampling method was used to divide 1 724 children into intervention group and (896) control group (828) depending on the type of kindergartens. The intervention group was provied with an intensive intervention, including children s vision health assessment, parental self management guidance for children s eye care, and community based eye care services, while the control group carried out routine intervention measures.@*Results@#In 2019, the incidence of visual and primary refractive screen abnormalities in preschoolers of Zhuanqiao community was 38.62%. The incidence of naked eye vision abnormalities was 4.40%, the incidence of myopia risk group, hyperopia risk group and astigmatism risk group was 37.10%, 2.20%, and 6.10 %, respectively. After the intervention, the referral rate of the intervention group (68.75%) was significantly higher than that of the control group (17.15%)( χ 2=465.09, P <0.01). The differences between two groups were statistically significant in choosing the hospital for treatment ( χ 2=10.01, 51.51, 15.40, 27.79, 19.96, 24.24, P <0.01).@*Conclusion@#The vision and refractive status of preschoolers worths further attention. Intensive intervention can improve the referral rate for children with screened vision abnormalities, which facilitates the prevention and early diagnosis of vision problems among preschoolers.
